Vacation

In the military community you get a lot of opportunities to meet interesting people all the time. Lovely people, most of whom you enjoy immensely. Every once in a while you make a great friend, usually a life long friend, unfortunately you do not always get the opportunity to live near them. For our vacation my husband and I went to see such a friend.

This friend actually predates the military life I now live. She was there on my first day of college, she had the matching shams to my sunflower bed spread. We were both there early because we both had to work. We instantly hit it off, and we stayed up that entire first night talking. Still to this day, no matter how long it has been since we last spoke, we can stay up all night talking.

It doesn't hurt that her backyard opens up to the Chesapeake bay, and her house is nicely tucked in a thick Virginia wood. One thing about living in Oklahoma, you really miss trees.

It felt great to spend so much time with my husband, we talked and talked about things we just kept putting off, so we could put out the fires at hand. We did things we both enjoyed, ate heartily, and simply enjoyed being together. After our alone time we headed to my friends, and I felt something I have not felt in a very long time.... home, welcome, and known.

I love the military community, I grew up in a military family and I have been so many wonderful places, and have met so many wonderful people. But it was so enjoyable to return to a place that doesn't move. A place where your children's children enjoy the same adventures along the same shore that you walked as a child.
